*This projects objective is to create a rural intentional community that focuses on and enhances the natural environment and the lives of it’s inhabitants. Our goal is to live well.
In the Azuay Province near Paute, Ecuador lies an Ecological Community. The project consists of 25 acres with a river passing through the middle consisting of 25 house lots with central farm/park and community center.
A large portion of the residents food will be grown on this professional managed farm with supplemental food purchased from our neighbors.
Permiculture farming practices will eliminate chemical use on the farm, irrigation systems will reduce water use, and soil erosion. Pasture lands will be reforested with orchards and hardwoods tree crops.
Clustered housing will preserve maximum commons space for a park-like atmosphere and farming or orchard use. Earth-covered houses will maximize the natural views, add sound proofing for privacy and save energy for heating and cooling.
Extensive ponds were created to enhance the beauty of the property, for recreation, water storage, fish and waterfowl habitat. A community center will consist of a dinning hall, small commercial kitchen, theater hall, swimming pool, and hot tubs for the use by the residents and their guests.
Located 45 kilometers from Cuenca, 19 kilometers from Paute, over-looking the Rio Paute at 7,500 elevation.
Lots with a share of community lands and buildings start at $59k. A typical house of 1,200 square feet cost approximately $60k.
